Our Philosophy

It would be ideal if all seniors in our communities could be taken care of in their own homes. However, as we all know, this is not possible for a number of different reasons, which is why we have community and nursing care facilities.

The management and staff of the Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge, also well know as the Gillis Lodge, believe that a community and nursing care facility should provide a haven of comfort and caring, where seniors can enjoy their twilight years; a community home where all residents are loved and cared for as they would be by their families in their own home.

Here we believe that every resident is a unique individual, with their own needs and wants and we strive to fulfill these needs on an individual basis.

About Us

The Dr. John M Gillis Memorial Lodge, or better known as the Gillis Lodge, was opened in 1987 under the leadership of Douglas Mackenzie which is still the case today! The property was the home of Dr. John Gillis and his wife, Edna, who was once the Director of Nursing.

Edna envisioned doing health care differently and they saw that rural PEI deserved a doctor and health care services. In later years Edna opened up her doors and invited local seniors into her home. The goal was simple, keep people in the community they have always lived in for as long as possible. Since then we have grown to include 88 nursing care beds and 10 community care beds.

Our Team

Our team is comprised of dedicated and experienced professionals who are committed to providing the best possible care for our residents. We work together to create a warm and welcoming environment for all who call Dr. John M Gillis Memorial Lodge their home.

The Gillis Lodge provides 24 hour nursing care services under the supervision of a Director of Nursing and a house Physician. We employee over 100 staff across our building including, RN's, LPN's, RCW's, RCA's, Cleaners, Housekeeping, Kitchen staff, and others.

The Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge believes that every individual has the right to a lifestyle that includes promotion of health, promotion of individuality and autonomy and a sense of well-being, which is to be provided by fully qualified professional staff who will deliver care using a holistic approach.
